Just wondering if you can help me with a query regarding the exact procedures required relating to tax and import duties connected with ordering some collectable figures and accessories off Ebay from a supplier in China to be delivered to a local shop (British run offering a mailing address for British expats) here in Spain. It is only 5 smallish items totalling about £181 in value altogether with free shipping by the Chinese supplier.
I am currently buying a house in Spain with the intention of living here permanently. I have an NIE number but until the conveyancing process is complete I am staying in rental accommodation in the countryside. I have been told it is best to have parcels delivered to the British shop address as properties in the countryside are sometimes hard for the Spanish postal service to find.
I know I shall have to pay 21 percent VAT and possibly import tax as well but I have no idea of the procedures involved. Do I have to contact the customs people before I place the order on Ebay? If not, how do customs know to contact me if I am using the British shop address instead of a home address? How do I pay this VAT and tax?
Apologies for all these questions but I really need a step-by-step guide on exactly what to do here. I haven’t learnt to speak Spanish yet. Hoping you can offer some information on how to proceed. Many thanks in advance.MonicaInvitado
My best advice is to contact customs directly , mainly because you will need to make sure you are registered in the Agencia Tributaria as when any import comes in they will track you down via the information your supplier indicates in the invoice they send with the parcel.
